Make Your Own Valentine’s Day Garland with the Kids
This is a really easy and inexpensive project that the entire family can get involved in! Use the festive finished tulle garland to decorate your mantle, staircase, holiday table, porch, or playroom. Check out our Party Stuff page to see how you can also use it for a selfie booth!
Here’s What You Need:
All you need is a minimum of 3 rolls of 6 inch tulle (sparkle tulle pictured) then use string, twine or ribbon you already have and a pair or 2 of scissors (children’s scissors for the little ones.) You can also use strips of fabric if you have any laying around or think to pick some up in the fabric store. If you are using fabric, cut it into 3 x 3 strips.
Here’s What You Do:
After you have gathered your supplies, have the kids who are old enough to use scissors cut the tulle into strips about 3 inches long and separate them into piles by color. It’s OK if they are not all the same, in fact a few different lengths will add some volume and interest to the garland.
Then lay out your string, ribbon or twine to the length you would like. I recommend at least a 6 foot length if you intend yo use it for the selfie booth.
Loop off the ends so they can be used to anchor/hang the garland.
Then simply tie the pieces onto the string, twine or ribbon so that the 2 ends hang down. Continue this in a pattern or randomly as you choose. Each child can be assigned a certain color to tie or the entire creative process can be unique to your own creations.
When you have tied all pieces, simply spread them out evenly and straighten any pieces that may be snarled and there you have it! Your own Holiday Garland!
If you have extra time and supplies, get even more creative by gluing hearts, tying gems, etc to the garland. Then hang it up and enjoy that feeling of a family project well done and you will be feeling So Good At Life!
