Easy Halloween Luminaries to Make with the Kids
While there’s nothing like a real pumpkin Jack O’Lantern, these luminaries are a fun, safe, and inexpensive way to create lighted pathways, porches, staircases, and driveways. These are also great décor accents for both indoor and outdoor parties. Make just a few for ambiance or make a ton of them for some dramas; these bags placed all over a dark porch, yard, or room sure do create an effect!
This is an easy, mess-free project that is perfect for children’s parties and events as well.
Here’s All You Need:
Paper Lunch bags. Regular brown bags work great or get even more creative with colored bags.
Scissors (age appropriate.)
Crayons or pencils
Sand (approximately 1 cup per luminary.)
LED tealights. I especially like those with built in timers so you can set them and forget them! (see affiliate link below)
Here’s All You Do:
Have the kids draw the face on the bag. If they fold the bag in half and draw just the half, it can make the cutting easier and more symmetrical. Older children and adults can help the little ones cut if need be. Fold each eye in half and cut a slit to make the cutting easier.
Place sand in the bottom of the bag then turn the candle on and place it inside That’s it! Creating faces will become addictive for the kids and before you know it, you might just have enough to light the neighborhood!
You can choose to get even more creative with colored paper or yarn for hair, stickers, letters, etc.
